Australia’s largest EV charging network, Chargefox, is pleased to announce the appointment of John Sullivan to the role of Chief Executive Officer. With his track record of leading organisational and digital transformation, most recently as Chief Technology Officer at sustainable energy finance company Brighte, Sullivan brings a wealth of experience and vision to Chargefox. The Australian owned company operates the nation’s largest and fastest growing open charging network for modern EVs.

Sullivan takes over the role on February 14 from Chargefox co-founder Marty Andrews, who announced plans to step down in late in 2022 after five years as CEO.

Andrews Co-founded Chargefox in 2017 and has overseen its exponential growth to become an EV network game-changer in Australia. A subsidiary of Australian Motoring Services (AMS), Chargefox operates charging stations across Australia and New Zealand, with more than 1200 plugs on the public network and plans to grow that to 5000 plugs, including 2000 fast chargers, by 2025.

Commenting on Sullivan’s appointment, Andrews said: “I know the company has a bright future with John at the wheel. When we started Chargefox, our mission was to leave a cleaner future for the next generation of Australians. We’ve worked hard to build the EV backbone to support that clean, green vision, and with the number of Australians driving electric vehicles set to soar in the coming years, it’s going to be an exciting time.”

Sullivan, who has also held senior leadership roles at Amazon Web Services, Qantas Group, MYOB and Sensis, said he was excited to take the helm of a fast-growing, innovative company. “Chargefox has sustainability and exemplary customer service at its heart, which makes us a great fit,” he said. “I thrive in product-led technology companies that continually seek to improve the way they deliver to their customers, and that’s Chargefox to a tee.”

Group CEO of parent company AMS, Michael Reed, said: “We warmly welcome John Sullivan to the helm of Chargefox, and I know we are united in our goal to provide the very best service and support to EV drivers. It’s been a pleasure working with Marty Andrews for the past five years, and we wish him well. He leaves on a high, having built a remarkable company.”

In December, Chargefox embarked upon a major project to provide key services for Australia’s longest EV fast-charging network in regional and remote Western Australia. Chargefox will provide software, driver support and management services for the network, which will extend more than 6600km and include the installation of up to 98 EV charging stations in 49 locations across the state by early 2024.

Part of the West Australian Government’s Electric Vehicle Action Plan, the project is key to boosting EV uptake in the state and continuing the transition to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
