The Australian Government has announced a grant opportunity for car sellers and repairers to receive up to $20,000 to install EV chargers.

What is the DRIVEN Charger Rebate Stream?

The federal government DRIVEN program provides $40 million to support the installation of EV charging infrastructure at Australian automotive dealerships and workshops across the country, including in regional and remote areas.

Car dealers, mechanics and workshops are eligible for up to $2,500 of funding per EV charger installed. Multiple EV chargers can be installed for a maximum of $20,000 in funding per eligible site.

The Australian Government is providing this co-funding in order to support the automotive sector to sell and repair a higher proportion of EVs and to increase awareness and knowledge of EVs and EV charging technologies for staff and customers.

When do applications open and close?

The program opens on the 22nd of January 2025 at 10:00am AEDT and closes on the 30th of April 2025 at 5:00pm AEDT

Who is eligible to apply?

Dealerships and repairers in the automotive industry including a licenced motor dealer/trader, a service centre associated with a a licenced motor dealer/trader, or an automotive repair business.

How much funding is available?

Up to $2,500 of funding per smart EV charger is available with a maximum of $20,000 per site.

What type of chargers can I install?

Single phase AC plugs with a 7kW charging speed, three phase AC plugs with a charging speed between 11kW and 22kW, and DC plugs with a charging speed of 50kW or less.

Chargers must be 'smart' in order to be eligible. i.e have an online connection that allows for remote control.
