Chargefox, in collaboration with NRMA, is thrilled to unveil a significant advancement in Australia's EV charging landscape: EV roaming. This innovative initiative aims to streamline the accessibility and usability of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the nation.

Look out for more NRMA chargers available on Charge

As EV drivers ourselves we know the pain of having to navigate multiple apps and platforms to locate and utilise public charging stations. This not only leads to “app fatigue” but also presents obstacles to the broader adoption of EVs.

Recognising these challenges, we have worked with NRMA to introduce EV roaming, a feature that integrates NRMA charging stations seamlessly into the Chargefox platform.

Through this collaboration, 60 more NRMA charging locations are now seamlessly integrated into the Chargefox platform. Whether using the NRMA or Chargefox app, drivers can easily locate and utilise chargers across metro and regional Australia.

This innovation eliminates the need for managing multiple apps and accounts, simplifying the charging experience and fostering greater ease of EV adoption.

“Drivers use Chargefox over 150,000 times per month to find their next charge. EV roaming makes it possible for any charge station owner or operator to make their chargers available to these drivers whilst still maintaining full control of their stations on their own station management platform ." - Nick Wodzinksi, Chargefox Head of Product.

The benefits of EV roaming extend to both charging networks and drivers, offering increased accessibility and convenience:

Benefits of roaming
For Charging Networks:
  • Reach the 150,000+ drivers who already use Chargefox.
  • Increase charger utilisation and revenue.
  • Retention of operational independence and pricing autonomy.
  • Option to maintain your own apps and user experience alongside integration with Chargefox.
For Drivers:
  • Simplified access to chargers via a single platform, reducing the need for multiple apps and accounts.
  • No additional costs with standard pricing regardless of which app you choose.
  • Flexibility to choose preferred charging apps while enjoying a seamless user experience.
  • Better support and affordability through club membership discounts or Chargefox charging subscriptions.

This collaboration between Chargefox and NRMA represents a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability, with both entities seeking to enhance charger utilisation, improve driver convenience, and accelerate the transition to clean transportation.

John Sullivan, CEO of Chargefox, underscored the significance of this development, stating, "Our mission is to make EV charging simple, affordable, and accessible for everyone.

Our new roaming capability means drivers can now access NRMA’s charging network alongside our existing alliance of leading charging networks including; The Motoring Clubs of Australia, Engie, WA EV Network, Queensland Electric Super Highway, and Electric Highway Tasmania.”

“In other markets, the introduction of roaming has led to additional costs for drivers. We are very conscious of this and are making sure roaming with Chargefox doesn’t lead to higher prices. We have worked closely with NRMA to see that the standard price of charging is the same.”
John Sullivan, Chargefox CEO
"EV Roaming is a true win-win. EV drivers get to access more chargers through one app and charger owners get more utilisation and revenue, whilst maintaining complete independence.”
- John Sullivan, Chargefox CEO

The integration of NRMA chargers into the Chargefox platform marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Australia's EV charging infrastructure. With a shared vision of sustainability and accessibility, Chargefox and NRMA are driving positive change and shaping the future of mobility.

Chargefox now invites all charging network operators to get in touch and discuss how Roaming on Chargefox can seamlessly make your chargers available to the 150,000+ drivers who already use Chargefox.
