Attendance and participation was high at All Energy 2024

Yesterday Chargefox hosted a session at Australia’s biggest energy conference, All Energy 2024, drawing a capacity crowd and generating lively audience engagement.

The session, How businesses and governments can benefit themselves and drivers through EVs was moderated by Chargefox CEO John Sullivan and featured industry experts from various sectors, including government, fleet management, and automotive clubs.

The discussion focused on the potential benefits of EVs for businesses, governments, and drivers alike, as well as the challenges and opportunities associated with the transition to electric vehicles.

Topics covered during the panel included:

  • The different types of EV charging solutions available for public, fleet, and workplace use.
  • How government policies can influence EV charging behaviour and adoption.
  • The role of local governments in promoting EVs and building charging infrastructure.
  • The challenges and opportunities of managing mixed fleets of electric and traditional vehicles.
  • The support services available to EV drivers, such as automotive club memberships and financing options.

Following the panel discussion, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions to the experts and learn more about the latest developments in the EV industry.

The session was but one of many related to EVs at All Energy - all of which attracted large, highly engaged crowds, demonstrating the huge growth and keen interest in all facets of the Electric Vehicle sector, and the important role that Chargefox is playing in driving the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future.

“We were overwhelmed by the response to our panel discussion,” said John Sullivan. “It’s clear that there is a growing appetite for information about EVs and how they can benefit businesses, governments, and drivers. We are committed to continuing our work to make EVs more accessible and affordable for everyone.”

The 5 key takeaways:

Accessibility is a growing area of focus.

Ensure that people with limited mobility or special accessibility needs are considered when designing new EV charging sites.

Merri-bek Council, a pioneer in EV charging in Australia, see this to be a big focus for their new charging locations.

Damage (accidental and deliberate) occurs.

Normal wear-and-tear of chargers is unavoidable, especially considering growing use and Australia’s weather extremes. Additionally, some charger hosts cite vandalism as a common issue.

Ensuring you install quality, robust charging equipment and consider security is a good investment in the long term.

RACV have invested significantly in upgrading their EV charging network, installing quality, resilient chargers from brands like Kempower.

Mixed fleets are the norm.

Very few fleets are 100% electric (YET!) but managing them and fuelling them doesn’t have to be pain.

Build for now. Prepare for the future.

Installing EV charging is not all-or-nothing. EVs only make up a small (but growing) percentage of vehicles in Australia so if you’re looking at getting EV charging you can ‘right-size’ for now but include capacity to expand in the future.

Engie can provide expert guidance to have you charging without overinvesting now, or being unprepared for the future.

Australia is learning from, not blindly following others.

In Australia we are at a different stage of EV adoption, compared to other oft-cited EV markets like Europe, China, North America and Scandinavia. We are learning a lot from these regions but we must and are forging our own path.

The South Australian Government’s EV Smart Charging trials are helping understand how we can transition to universal, equitable electrified transport with consideration for things unique to the Australian context.

Director Department of Energy and Mining at South Australia Government, Scott Oster speaking on their array of achievements.

The event was sponsored by Chargefox, highlighting the company’s leadership in the EV charging industry and its dedication to building a sustainable future.
