Recently, Zach and Phil from the AMS and Chargefox Partnerships Team headed West to engage with a range of charging networks, installation partners and supporting agencies. While driving through Perth, one thing was immediately clear, electric vehicles are everywhere.
The first stop was the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification who manage the Charge Up Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Grants. It was exciting to hear about the various small to medium enterprises that will install fast-charging sites via co-funding of up to 50 per cent of the cost of electric vehicle charger installation. As Round 3 is now closed, we look forward to seeing plenty of new sites go live on the Chargefox app in the coming months. More information on the WA Government’s Charge Up EV Charging Grants is available here.
Next stop was with one of our preferred installation partners Addelec, a long-term partner of Chargefox responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of many of the state’s most utilised and highly rated EV charging locations. Addelec install EV charging equipment in public locations, workplaces and homes, and are at great place to start if you are considering EV charging. More information on Addelec is available here.

We then moved to catching up with both Horizon and Synergy, operators of the WA EV network, one of the world’s longest EV charging networks. Since completing the network end to end, usage has been consistently increasing, leading to over 800MWh of charging completed, the equivalent to over 4 million kilometres of driving or 100+ laps around the earth.
These visits highlighted the importance of having both reliable and well-located charging stations. Building the network is only the start of journey, having strong partnerships on the ground is vital. It’s clear to see both networks being well supported by likes of installation and maintenance partners JET Charge and charging hardware suppliers Kempower.
To beat the heat we then headed to beautiful Elizabeth Quay where we met with the team from Sonic Charge who are proving that EV charging offers investment and business opportunities and that public EV charging thrives when supported by government policy. More information on Sonic Charge is available here.
After just a few days one thing is clear, residents and visitors alike should be excited about the growth of EV adoption in Western Australia and the range of new charging plugs coming onto Chargefox.
