Australia’s largest EV charging network expands in NSW

Chargefox, Australia’s largest public electric vehicle (EV) charging network, has expanded with the opening of two additional ultra-rapid charging stations in Karuah and Shell Cove, New South Wales. The Chargefox public charging network already includes ultra-rapid charging stations in Sydney and Goulburn to offer NSW residents the opportunity to access this world-class technology in multiple locations. Chargefox has now opened 13 ultra-rapid stations across VIC, NSW, QLD, TAS and SA.
The locations in Shell Cove and Karuah mean locals and tourists alike have access to the fastest chargers in the world, delivering up to 400km of range in only 15 minutes and powered by 100% renewable energy.
Marty Andrews, Chargefox CEO, said, “We’re continuing the roll out of our ultra-rapid network across Australia, and it’s great to be able to expand so rapidly in New South Wales. Chargefox is building the infrastructure required to open up the East Coast of NSW for EV drivers. Our public charging network facilitates EV travel within NSW and interstate, and soon it will be even easier to travel long distances without any long charging stops.”
Ms. Nell Payne, Executive General Manager, Motoring at NRMA said, “It’s great to see Chargefox expanding and adding to NRMA’s already extensive network of EV chargers across the state, further opening up NSW to the next generation of motorists. We know that range anxiety is a real barrier to the uptake of EVs so more chargers connecting more destinations will go a long way to alleviating these concerns.”
Andrews concludes, “The new sites in Shell Cove and Karuah are a stepping stone on our journey to connect Australia’s major cities and regional centres for the thousands of EV drivers in the future. Whilst EV charging stations are essential, we encourage drivers to support the individual state travel restrictions required to keep us all COVID safe.”
Editor’s Notes
Chargefox is the biggest and fastest-growing open charging network in Australia for modern EVs. It has been operating charging stations across Australia and New Zealand for nearly 3 years and has managed more than 110,000 charging sessions for drivers via it’s iPhone and Android mobile apps. More than half of all EV drivers in Australia are Chargefox users and someone plugs into the Chargefox network once every 5 minutes.
The ultra-rapid charging network is an investment by the Australian Motoring Services (NRMA, RACV, RACQ, RAC, RAA and RACT), Wilson Transformers and the founder of Carsales, Greg Roebuck. It is supported with grants from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the Victorian Government.
Chargefox’s multiple partnerships with car manufacturers mean that Australians can confidently purchase an EV backed by the Chargefox network.
The freely-available Chargefox app also helps users easily find, use and pay for charging across hundreds of stations in Australia and New Zealand.
