You did It! 5 million charging sessions and counting

A huge thank you to our amazing EV community for helping us reach this incredible milestone

We're absolutely thrilled to share that we've just hit 5 million charging sessions across our platform!

It's pretty surreal to think about how far we've all come together. When we started Chargefox back in 2017, electric vehicles were still turning heads on Australian roads. We had a simple but ambitious vision: to make EV charging as easy and accessible as possible for everyone.

Those early days were quite the adventure. We were rolling out some of Australia's very first public charging stations, often explaining to curious onlookers what these mysterious new boxes actually did. Every charging session felt like a small victory for the EV movement, and honestly, we celebrated each one.

Here's what really blows our minds though – the incredible pace of growth we've seen recently. It took us around seven years to reach our 2 millionth charging session milestone, which we celebrated just 18 months ago. But here's the kicker: we've managed to power through another 3 million sessions in just 18 months! That's some serious acceleration, and it shows just how quickly Australia is embracing electric vehicles.

This explosive growth reflects something we've been seeing firsthand – EVs aren't just for early adopters anymore. They're becoming the smart choice for families, businesses, and anyone who wants to save money on fuel while doing their bit for the environment. Every one of those 5 million sessions represents someone choosing a cleaner, cheaper way to get around.

Along the way, we've learnt a lot about what our customers really need. That's why we made the strategic decision to step back from the charging hardware market and focus on what we do best – creating brilliant software solutions and supporting businesses to achieve their EV charging goals. We realised that our real strength lies in understanding the Australian market and building technology that actually works for real people in real situations.

Cam Murphy started with Chargefox in 2019 and summarised the Chargefox journey like this...

"When I started the whole business was six passionate people in a room, celebrating 2000 charging sessions in an entire month. Fast-forward to today – we're hitting 2000 sessions every single moment. The scale has exploded beyond our wildest imagination, but what I love is that we've kept that scrappy, move-fast energy that made us fall in love with this mission in the first place. That's the Chargefox DNA."

‍A lot of things have changed since we started but the important things are still the same. We are still 100% Australian. We still make all our software in-house and our Head Office is still in Melbourne.

These days, we're working with some amazing partners across the country, helping them deliver charging solutions that their customers love. Whether it's a shopping center wanting to attract EV drivers, a workplace looking to support their employees' transition to electric, or a state government electrifying their fleet, we're there with the software and support to make it happen.

But let's be honest – none of this would be possible without our incredible community of EV drivers. You've stuck with us through the early days when charging could be a bit of an adventure, you've given us feedback that's made our platform better, and you've shown other Australians that electric driving isn't just possible – it's brilliant.

As we look ahead, we're more excited than ever about the future of electric transport in Australia. With 5 million charging sessions under our belt and the momentum we're seeing, we can't wait to see what the next milestone brings.
