Chargefox, Australia’s largest public electric vehicle (EV) charging network, has expanded with the opening of the first ultra-rapid charging station in Ballarat, Victoria. The location in Ballarat means EV drivers will have access to this world-class technology, capable of delivering up to 400km of range in only 15 minutes and backed up by 100% renewable energy.
Marty Andrews, Chargefox CEO, said, “This Ballarat location has always been part of our roll out plan and it is one of a number of key charging stations planned to connect Melbourne and Adelaide. Just like petrol stations, these charging stations are an essential service for EV owners, and where possible, we will continue to expand the Chargefox network to help prepare EV drivers for the future. For the time being however, we support the importance of staying closer to home and are pleased to be able to offer this world leading technology to Ballarat locals.”
Nicole Brasz, RACV Executive General Manager Home and Energy, said, “The new charging station in Ballarat is an important milestone for Chargefox and RACV members. A reliable charging network is critical to ensure that all electric vehicle owners can, in the future, travel where they need to without worrying about running out of charge or spending hours waiting for a recharge. RACV continues to invest in emerging technology and infrastructure like Chargefox, solar systems at our resorts and in the home to improve the lives of all Victorians.”
Andrews concludes, “This is a strange time for many businesses, but we remain focused on making EV charging as fast, easy and affordable as possible for all Australians. This new site in Ballarat is the next stepping stone on our journey to connect Australia’s major cities for the thousands of EV drivers in the future.”

Chargefox is the biggest and fastest growing open charging network in Australia for modern EVs. It has been operating charging stations across Australia and New Zealand for 2 years and has managed more than 95,000 charging sessions for drivers via it’s iPhone and Android mobile apps. More than half of all EV drivers in Australia are Chargefox users.
The ultra-rapid charging network is an investment by the Australian Motoring Services (RACV, NRMA, RACQ, RAC, RAA and RACT), Wilson Transformers and the founder of Carsales, Greg Roebuck. It is supported with grants from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the Victorian Government.
Chargefox’s multiple partnerships with car manufacturers mean that Australians can confidently purchase an EV backed by the Chargefox network.
The freely-available Chargefox app also helps users easily find, use and pay for charging across hundreds of stations in Australia and New Zealand.
